Detroit Province of the Society of JesusName & title: Marie A. Schimelfening, Coordinator Communications and Public Relations Institution & publication: Detroit Province of the Society of Jesus Type of publication: magazine Readership audience: Donors to the Province, lay companions and other interested persons. Number of pages: 16 Frequency of publication: quarterly Circulation: 6,650 approximately Color: 4-color Basic style manual: Chicago Manual, AP Stylebook Reason for using the manual: Selections have been used since the beginning of Companions, Detroit Province insert in COMPANY MAGAZINE. Dictionary: American Heritage Reason for using dictionary: On the desk when I arrived in the office 3-1/2 years ago. Other resources: Yes, on occasion I use Roget's Thesaurus. Items on our house style sheet not covered in our manual: When to follow the rules and when not to follow the rules? My predecessor once said,"I never wanted the rules to interfere with the reader's own pleasure of reading". An example would be, when we have a few Jesuits to name, do we use Fr. S, Fr. Y, Fr. Z, with their own SJ or S.J. or say, Frs.S, Y, Z, SJ or all Jesuits. Or are we to use Father S, Father Y, Father Z. Mass capitalized when we mean a liturgy. As or Father Ignatius, we would use St. Ignatius? Items on our house stylesheet that override our manual: No sure right now. Unresolved issues: I have to say for 16 & 17 that I do appreciate Peter Taylor's [art director] response to some of my questions about the above because he knows the COMPANY style and since are insert is in COMPANY, we try to keep it the same. All I have for now. Thank you. Look forward to learning more. |
